Inspired by the spinal surgery that changed the course of my life. Some situations we are put in make us believe that we can’t go on, but it’s those situations wherein we become stronger. I’m so thankful for all the experiences, both good and bad, that made me who I am today. At this point in my life, I have never been happier.
Lyrics written by Bowerbirds.
Thanks to Rueben at Chameleon Tattoo in Cambridge, MA for his beautiful work :)
This is my first tattoo. I’ve been waiting to get it for about three years, and I finally got it! It was done by Juan at Orlando Tattoo Company.
I got the word empathy, to remind myself to never judge others because you don’t know what they’re going through. It’s one thing to feel bad for someone, but it’s something else completely to be able to put yourself in their shoes. And also, this is for Jeff. I didn’t really know you, but I wish I would have had the chance. No one deserves to go through what you went through.
I got this for my 18th Birthday in September. Long story short, high school life is tough until you uncover the secret* of surviving it.
*Hint: Stop giving a shit about useless people.
I got this done at Kathouse Inc in California by Danika. She was awesome! Really nice and made me feel like I was ready for my first tattoo. It didn’t hurt one bit, I was actually falling asleep. :)
I got this done back in July ‘11.
I wanted the anchor to represent to stay grounded to my morals and foundations. They’re the foundation to a ship to hold it down, and that they’re “stronger than oceans.” Stronger Than Oceans is from the song Purified by Of Mice & Men. I got the lyrics to represent that no matter through all the bullshit in Life, Love, Lost, Unhappiness and everyday things to never give up. That in the end it will all be worth it.

My second ink. ‘Fighting’ meaning - ‘go for it’. It’s a reminder for myself, that at tough times no family, friends, strangers or anyone could support you better than yourself. Find the inner strenght and go for life!
Originally this word i saw used by koreans, and some idols inspired me to fight even more for the dreams (:
Took me waiting for 2 hours to get a 20min tattoo D: made by Tolik @EddyTattoo salon, Lithuania :3
Work by Andrew Moore at Shogun Tattoos - Pasadena, CA.
This was taken 3 hours after it was done. :)
“Tempest neminem manet” is latin for “time waits for no one.”
It is a reminder to myself that I will not be push back work or be scared to take a leap of faith because I might not have the same opportunity again.
This is a tribute to my favorite band, Bright Eyes. Conor Oberst’s music has gotten me through many difficult times, and this tattoo is a constant reminder of where I’ve been, where I am now, and that I can get through whatever hard times are ahead of me. The yellow bird is taken from imagery used within his lyrics. The word ‘lifted’ is not only an album title, but a word continuously used throughout his lyrics. Each sense that he uses it in inspires and affects me in different ways and I continue to find new meanings through his words.
Done by Michelle Tarantelli at Saved Tattoo in Brooklyn, NY.
These are all three of my tattoos I currently have, they’re all located on my ribs/torso region.
The text was my first one and it is in Finnish because my entire family in from Finland, and I go back every four years to visit. It’s a reminder of how much I love my family & to go back as often as I can. (I live in Canada) ( Done by Joel Martin, Black and Blue Tattoo Studio)
My anchor was my second tattoo because all men in Finland are required to do a years worth of military service and every male in my family chose to join the Navy. I also got the anchor to represent how much I love being around the ocean, it is where I feel most at home. (Done by Rick Wilson, Strange World, Calgary)
Finally my Valkyrie. I got her done because I love how destructive women are to men. Valkyries are part of Norse mythology and decided which men died in battle before it even began and it was their job to bring back the ones they had chosen to Valhalla (Viking version of Heaven). (Done by Rick Wilson)
I had my apprehensions about getting my ribs tattooed because people had warned me it is one of the most painful spots to get inked. Three tattoos later, all in the span of one year (October 2010-August 2011) and I’m still here and will be getting more. The actual tattooing didn’t hurt, but the healing process is the worst because of how itchy they all get.
This is my first tattoo, located on my inner wrists. It was done by a dear friend and tattoo artist, Milton Nunez from MyTattoo in Alhambra, CA. He has done my mom’s entire cartoon sleeve, and I knew when I was ready for my first tattoo that he’d be the one I’d trust to execute it perfectly. And obviously, he did. After about two hours, he successfully brought my vintage Mickey Mouse + Minnie Mouse “kiss at the wrist” idea to life. When I bring my wrists together, as shown in the lower photo, they kiss. Disney has always been such a huge part of my life, and I thought this simple yet adorable tattoo would be a great start. The love between the two characters is a love that I would kill to experience in my life. I already can’t wait to get more tattoos. I will always return to Milton. I don’t believe in going to multiple artists. Hopefully I will have more to submit soon :]
